Summer-Day Camp

The summer Roleplay program is offered during the traditional summer break (mid-June through the end of August) It features consecutive one week sessions where students work with their group to accomplish their goals. The sessions last all day, from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday. The student spend their lunch break outside and participate in low-impact team sports such as frisbee and capture the flag.

Generally, students are encouraged to sign up for the entire week, but we are flexible enough to accommodate the changing schedules families have over the summer. Please contact The Roleplay Workshop to discuss any special scheduling needs that you may have.

The program is designed for a minimum of four students and as many as eighteen per week. Scheduling begins on the first week of April, and students are encouraged to sign up early, as spaces fill quickly.

Summer-Extended Care (top)

We can provide extended care beyond the scheduled program hours. Extended care is available from 8 am to 6 pm. Cost is calculated on the basis of $5 per 15 minute block of time. Be sure to either sign up for extended care on your enrollment form, or contact Becky at least 1 week prior to your scheduled session.

Summer-Camping (top)

Each summer The Roleplay Workshop goes camping! Each trip is a one week trip for six experienced students ages 13 and up. This camping trip involves the students in all levels of the trip, as they are responsible for aiding the Workshop's staff in planning and organizing the trip, as well as preparing meals and cleaning up.

These camping trips take the students to the scenic redwoods of Samuel P. Taylor Park near Muir Woods and Point Reyes in Marin County. In order to be eligible for the trip, a student must be at least thirteen years old and have been with The Roleplay Workshop for at least two years. If you think you our your child may be eligible, please contact us for more information.

What is a Role Playing Game?

A role playing game can best be described as interactive story telling. Players create characters within the structure of the world and work together to solve "missions" created by the "game master".

What is Abantey? (top)

The Roleplay Workshop uses a role playing game called Abantey as a teaching tool with students ages 10 and up. While playing the game, students practice basic math and statistics, learn ecology, anthropology, organizational skills, and how to work with each other.

Why The Roleplay Workshop? (top)

Role playing games are certainly nothing new, in fact your child may already be playing role playing games on their own. The Roleplay Workshop, however, offers significant advantages for students of any age and skill level.

The Roleplay Workshop is facilitated and directed by adults who are educators as well as experienced gamers. By mediating and directing the flow of play, the staff is able to create an effective learning environment for every student.

Students are encouraged to play other role playing games on their own, as these games can be excellent learning tools. The Roleplay Workshop, however, is an excellent forum to improve those skills and to develop new ones. It also offers students an environment where there are older, more experienced students and adults who can offer advice to students on issues outside of the Workshop sessions.
