Hello Everyone!

Well, it's mid-March already! Spring break is rapidly approaching, and we've got a hugh callenge ahead of us for this spring season. Many of the schools have different holiday weeks. So many, in fact, that we're hoping to be able to meet your holiday program needs for four weeks in a row! Our first week of spring break is March 24 - 28, followed by March 31 - April 4; April 7 - 11 and finally April 14 - 18. Our after school programs will still be in session for each week. The holiday programs will run from 9 am to 3 pm, cost $35 per day, and have extended care available to 5 pm ($15) or 6 pm ($25).

If you are interested in enrolling for a holiday day, please email Becky (info@roleplay-workshop.com) as soon as possible to ensure that you get a space.

Summer Program Information!
The summer program information is now available. Our programs will begin the week of June 23rd and continue through the week of September 2nd. It's looking like a fantastic summer ahead!

Be sure to enroll early, as our spaces are limited.

School Holidays

We have school holiday sessions available for most public and some private school holidays. We strive to be able to staff both our after school and the school holiday sessions, unless the holiday is for all schools. This means, that holiday sessions are available depending upon staffing and after school enrollment.

In order to guarantee the desired holiday date we ask for your assistance. If you know other students who have participated in the Roleplay Workshop or students who have never participated but might be interested in what we have to offer, we encourage you to contact them immediately. The one day holiday sessions are are a great time to try out the Roleplay Workshop.

Please remember to contact us in a timely fashion to sign up for holiday sessions. We need one week’s notice to be able to effectively fill and staff a holiday session.

Check enrollment here: School Year Enrollment Listing

To sign up for school holiday sessions, email Becky at: info@roleplay-workshop.com

Please sign up for school holidays at least two weeks in advance, so that we can can assure proper staffing.

Short Days:
We offer 'short days', from 9 am to 3 pm, for $35, due to staffing issues, on days when only some schools have a holiday session. We will have extended care available for Short Day Programs. Extended care: 3 pm - 5 pm, $15; 3 pm - 6 pm $25.

Full Days:
We offer 'full days', from 9 am to 5 pm, for $50, on days when a majority of schools are out on holiday. We have extended care for full Day Programs, from 8:00-8:44 am and 5:16 - 6 pm, at a cost of $5 per 15 minutes.

Adult Abantey (top)

Our Adult Abantey program is off and running. For a while now we’ve been getting requests for an adult Abantey group. The program is open to anyone 18 and older. The games explore more mature themes and tend to be faster paced and more challenging than the adventures we run with the kids. Our current group meets on Friday evenings from 6:30 to 11:30 and even includes a parent.

We are starting a second group, on the 1st and 3rd Saturdays of each month, meeting from 6:00 pm to 11 pm.

If you are interested in joining us - contact Becky at (510) 654-3582 during normal business hours or e-mail her at becky@roleplay-workshop.com

Rates
You may have noticed the slight increase in the rates for the After school Program this year. We have avoided raising rates for the past six years but unfortunately this is no longer possible. You may not know this but, until recently, Dr Comics and Mr. Games did not charge us for the use of their space. We now pay rent for the space upstairs. This, the transition to W4 and the necessity to pay Worker’s Compensation Insurance has had an enormous impact on the cost of running the business, as well as the general increase in the costs of living in the Bay Area. We have worked hard to keep the Roleplay Workshop’s fees comparable, if not lower, than other after school programs.

We would like to remind parents that we still offer a $25 credit for referring a student that signs up for After School Roleplay for an entire year. The credit will be applied only after registration has been confirmed.

Special Pricing for Monday through Thursday Sign Ups!
Our Friday and Saturday groups fill up very quickly, and often we have little or no enrollment in our weekday programs. Beginning this fall, we will have discounted pricing for sign ups in our Monday through Thursday groups (see Rates).
So! Sign up for a group on Monday through Thursday!

You can view our rates by using this link.

Updates to program rates will be posted to the web page.

Program Policies (top)
This summer, we formalized our program policies. You will recieve a copy with your school year enrollment, if we do not have one already on file for you. Please take a moment to read over the policies. We ask that you make a copy for yourself and return a signed copy to us for your file. Updates to program policies will be posted to the web page. You can view the program policies using this link.

PAG (Parent Action Group)s (top)
We want your input! You are on the front lines supporting your students’ well being, growth and education, and we want to partner with you more deeply. The Parent Action Group will be an opportunity for parents to help shape and direct the future of the Roleplay Workshop. Something like an advisory board, the PAG will not only give feedback, but also support RPWS staff in implementing improvements to all our programs. What has worked for you and your student? What improvements do you envision? How can we better serve our community? What skills or contacts do you have that can help us enrich our program to better meet our students needs? We would like to have a PAG that is able to meet at least bimonthly, and invest an additional 4 hours/month of time. If you are interested in the PAG, please RSVP to becky@roleplay-workshop.com.

The School Site Project
One of the ways that we would like to reach more students is to run regular after school sessions at local middle and high schools, as well as at our main site. In order to make this a reality we need your help! We are in the process of designing a packet to be sent out to teachers, after school coordinators and principals. Please send us a brief testimonial or statement about your experience with the Roleplay Workshop, and encourage your student to do the same. We also need to know who to contact. Is there a particular teacher or administrator at your school we should be in touch with? Let us know!

Special Needs Tables (top)
Beginning this fall, we will be offering small tables (3 - 4 students), geared to develop communication and social skills. These tables accommodate our growing number of students with learning disabilities and developmental disorders. The groups will have stories that are as complex, challenging and fun as those for other groups, but geared for their specific learning and developmental needs. Tables may be further broken up by skill level and maturity.

Enrollment in a Special Needs table will include, at the parent's request, consultation with the student's therapist or educational resource specialist. Additionally, monthly reports of the student's progress will be provided. The costs for these special groups will be higher than standard group costs (see Rates).

If you have any questions about the new group or your student’s eligibility or needs, please contact Becky after September 17th.

Table Groupings (top)
Each day (weekday, weekend, or holiday) is broken into groups depending upon age and the number of students enrolled. Table Groupings will be determined based upon enrollment. All efforts will be made to group students by age and experience. Director's Tables will be available on any day Becky is available with enough enrollment of eligible teens.

As always, the number of groups available, and their composition (maturity, experience, special needs), depends upon the enrollment and staffing for any given day. We strive to be able to accomodate all types of groups on all days. However, if enrollment is low or skewed, we may not be able to provide a specific group type for your student on a specific day.

Regular: Students ages 10 - 12. These are basic stories appropriate for the age range and experience level of the players.

Teen: Students ages 13 - 18, no experience necessary. These stories are more complicated and better suited to the changing needs of teens.

Special Needs: We offer small tables (3 - 4 students), geared to develop communication and social skills. These tables accommodate our growing number of students with learning disabilities and developmental disorders. The groups will have stories that are as complex, challenging and fun as those for other groups, but geared for their specific learning and developmental needs. Tables may be further broken by skill level and maturity.

The Director's Table! (top)
The Director's Table will only be held on those days that Becky is available AND there are 4 or more students enrolled who qualify.

The Director's table will be limited to just six spaces and is specifically geared for teens (13 and older) who are ready for advanced play. The games will be difficult and players will be expected to have an excellent handle on system mechanics. They are assumed to be ready to play with very little or no assistance. Keep in mind that Abantey has an extremely complicated game system and it usually takes two or more years, to learn.

Again, the requirements for the Director's Table are:
-13 years and up
-Excellent working knowledge of system mechanics. Can play without help.
-By application only. Application to be reviewed by all of the upper staff.

Please check the Schedule page for the school year schedule and enrollment form.

Call Becky at (510) 654-3582 for more information. This is a HOME office, please do not call before 9 am or after 9 pm.
