Liberty’s Column
Dear Parents,
Our family is starting the uphill climb toward scheduling the summer.
It always seems so early to begin thinking about it, I am surprised every
year.
Thankfully, we can expect more of the tremendous fun at Abantey’s
summer programs, a staple summer treat for the kids. I am sure many of
you feel the same way, I am grateful for Becky’s thoughtful program.
Summers, I particularly and love to see the kids graduating into Game
Masters, through the preparation intensives and retreat. Our kids seem
to connect with more children in sustaining friendships through Abantey
than most other summertime activities.
Check out the online calendars above, very informative and useful!
Cheers and more to come...

Session Summaries
Mondays
We have space for enroll up to 8 students on Mondays.
Greg:
Last month, Mondays group was stuck in a snowstorm after their train broke
down. After a scary night of burning all available materials too keep
warm, they woke up the next morning to find a village on the other side
of the valley. As they trek to through the snow fields, they encounter
a large monster that threatens to eat them. Looking closely, they realize
it’s a ruse by a pack of Siliths (small flying lizards, that are
sentient and have the personalities and social skills of five year olds).
After exposing the joke, they are free to continue on to their final destination,
Plaj-E-Tech Industries.
Tuesdays
Greg
Home School Group
Greg’s home school group needs to save their friend, Chi-Chi, who
thinks he is a chicken. Confronting Monty Jones, the Marked Plajet who
cursed Chi-Chi, they demand that he fix their friend. They tell him as
a part of the Marked Plajet culture, if you play a joke on someone who
doesn’t think it’s funny, you must do everything in your power
to fix it. (This is true!) Accepting this, Monty Jones tells them he needs
their help retrieving the ingredients to fix Chi-Chi. First they must
go to the Land of Baluud, to retrieve some rare herbs. Will they be successful
without insulting the nature protective culture of the Baluuds?

Going to the Circus - what fun! The circus was very exciting - acrobats,
clowns, musicians, a strong woman, and a high wire act. There was also
an elaborate animal act including hippogriffons, saber-toothed tigers
and shadow wolves! In a back tent were ‘oddities’ - a ‘monkey
boy’ and a ‘wolf man’, both odd looking mixed races,
and the ‘incarnation of Os’Feesha’, conjoined twins
- a man and a woman… You guessed it - the conjoined twins are Maurice
and Claudette - the ones the party must ‘rescue’. The party
plans to speak with Maurice and Claudette near the end of the next show,
but while waiting, Obi One chooses to remain near the circus, meditating
on the side of the road… in this unaware state, he gets knocked
on the head and robbed. The party also discovers (through Emerald mind-to-mind
magic) that Maurice and Claudette ran away from home and don’t want
to go back.
With their well laid plans falling apart, the party first recovers Obi
One’s stolen equipment from a group of street punks. Then they observe
the circus celebrating and getting ready for bed. CyFi manages to disguise
himself as an actor and talks his way into the closing celebration and
gets an opportunity to talk with the circus folk and get a good look at
their security arrangements… putting the giant wolves on guard!
As the circus goes to sleep, the party prepares to sneak in and snatch
the conjoined twins!

After School Group
We have space for 7 more players.
Well, February was a difficult month for the Tuesday group. Between absences
and holidays, we didn’t work on our mission. We used the time to
create characters and play some unique strategy games.
Wednesdays
We have no current enrollment for Wednesday. If you would like to start
a Wednesday group (4 students minimum), please let me know. We can enroll
up to 12 students on Wednesdays.
Thursdays
Our Thursday group is mostly girls (6 out of 8), ages 10 to 12. We can
enroll up to 10 more students.

On the way back to the town the party is faced with a crisis: one of the
people traveling with them tries to kill the very person they are trying
to protect. After the team manages to stop him and get him under control.
It soon becomes clear that their questioning is getting nowhere. So, the
party decides they have no time to lose, and they decide to send three
of their party members into town to gather information. There, the three
adventurers find several promising leads. They have been looking for several
individuals who went missing during the midst of a mysterious fire. Now
it seems that they have finally found something that can lead to their
friends, but things go horribly wrong!
While the the adventurers are waiting for news, the adventurers in town
hear a knock on the door and are taken into custody by the town guards.
The other adventurers rush to town to find out what has happened to them
only to discover that they are nowhere to be found and were seen leaving
with law enforcement. The adventurers know that they don't have enough
information to make a flawless plan but they also know that time may be
running out, and so they stumble deeper into this web of disappearance,
lies and possibly murder...
Fridays
Friday is a very full day! We have one more space available.
At the end of February, we switched the groups around to offer the Friday
players opportunities to play with different GMs and different players.
Becky
In the final two sessions of our mission, the group raced through the
seven sections of the abandoned Sakeet City, looking for any notes or
diaries of the Priesten. They faced and overcame several challenges about
how to enter the buildings and chambers of the temples. They were sorely
tempted by all the valuable weapons and gear that were lying around -
but came to their senses when they realized they had no way to safely
carry it across the dangerous Marked Sakeet territory to their extraction
point. They had a very strange encounter with what appeared to be some
very powerful magic swords. This ended with them losing consciousness
for several hours… but everything seemed OK when they awoke, so
they continued on. Our mission ended with the party successfully reaching
the rendezvous and turning over the items. They were well rewarded and
the characters that were from the Land of Sakeet were offered the opportunity
to travel the world. And so our mission ended.
Greg
A new adventure has started on Fridays.
The Marked Feeshan Temple has asked for help. With increased occurrences
of priceless artifacts being stolen from their lands, the Feeshans desperately
need help to put an end to this problem.
The party’s first step is to go to a Feeshan temple that’s
a little off the beaten path. So they must sail down a river for days.
As they sail through a quaint little Feeshan town, they quickly realize
the whole town is empty. It appears as if a pack of large cats attacked
the town, and drove off all the residents! What’s going on? Is this
related to the missing artifacts?
Marcus and Scott:
Due to missing many players this month we were unable to start our new
mission, however we did run a few mini-missions and play some strategy
games. On one mission the adventurers were met in Tabur by a strange Plajet
man going by the name “Purple Monkey Dishwasher”. Obviously
intrigued by this man’s name they decided to listen to him as he
described “The Duck” that Os’Plajet needed them to retrieve.
What, or who, was this duck, and what did Os’Plajet want with it?
With those questions in mind, the Purple Monkey led them into a mysterious
forest, a strange place where all roads led to the same group of amazing
hackysack players. They refused to answer the questions the party had
about “The Duck”, and the strange temple in which he was supposedly
located. After a long time of searching, and winding up in the same place
again and again, the adventures were finally able to gain the help of
the strange hackysack players. Instantly teleported to the temple by some
strange power they discovered “The Duck” and all was good.
Saturday (1st & 3rd)
We currently have two tables. Becky has one space at her table, and Greg
has 2 spaces available at his table.
Becky
The party has decided to take matters into their own hands. Instead of
trying to flee the advancing army of Marked Sakeet with wagons full of
injured people, they decided to set up an ambush. This should allow them
to get the remaining Rogue Sakeet to the nearest big town. Their intent
is to throw the Sakeet into confusion, destroying their supplies. They
have set up and elaborate plan involving setting a fire in the savannah
and goading a nearby female Tyrannosaurus Rex into attacking the Marked
Sakeet camp. In spite of alarming the perimeter guards, the plan goes
well! The fire burns the supplies and the T. Rex rampages through the
camp wreaking havoc. The party is currently engaged in a small battle
with a guard outpost as an additional distraction to the Marked Sakeet.
Greg
Greg’s Saturday Group was unable to work on their mission this month.
Instead, we played other team building games.
Saturday (2nd & 4th)
The 2nd & 4th Saturday of each month has one regular group (full)
and 1 to 2 tables of training for our assistant program. Assistants (ages
13 and up) play in advanced games that stress the more difficult aspects
of the Abantey game. They are polishing their skills in preparation for
assisting with the summer program.
Dominic & Michael (regular group)
The party was hired on a routine wagon escort to Palgo, a Plajet city.
Near the end of the voyage, there was an enormous rainstorm. Out of the
forest a group of bandits attacked the wagon and hurt some of the party.
With the rain getting heavier by the minute, the wounded party finds a
great castle just off the road. They come to the door where a butler greets
them, and tells them that they are just in time for an event.
