Session Summaries

Mondays
After School At Dr Comics

We have space for enrollment of up to 7 more students.

Becky Thomas
Things got off to a bang for our Monday group. They are investigating the disturbances in the Twilight of Kiki and keeping on eye on Toksuri - an ARA operative. While preparing to enter the Twilight, they discovered that Toksuri is a very special operative for the ARA - she a synthesis of an Abantey person and a strange entity from Amethyst. Her purpose being to oppose the forces from Amethyst that are attempting to invade Abantey! As a hybrid person, she has interesting dietary requirements that cause the party some difficulties. Additionally, she seems to be responding to something from the Twilight... something that causes her to lose all awareness of her surroundings every other day...

The party has gotten a good lead about how to enter the Twilight, a ferry operation by the name of ‘Fat Fred’s Ferry’. They made their way down to the dilapidated docks for Fat Fred’s Ferry, but unfortunately, he was not around, His thoroughly unpleasant wife told them to wait. While they were waiting, a Sakeet town guard approached them. He said he was there to take away Toksuri for questioning about some murders! Toksuri was oddly nonresistant. The party attempted to discourage the Guards by talking, but ended up engaged in a small battle with him. The Guard proved to be an oddly effective opponent, and ended up spiriting Toksuri away! Now they must find her and get her back before they can head into the Twilight to solve their mystery!

Greg Dachner
On Monday, last month, Greg's group had decided to traverse the abandoned Shovelhead Mine. Inside they found it filled with strange Plajet mining contraptions, but no monsters. Where could the monsters be, that were haunting the mines? Searching deeper, they found a young miner who was tied up and deserted in a tunnel. After freeing him and calming him down, he exclaimed to them the strange beasts had captured him, and they were going to eat him. Not wishing to wait around for the monsters to return for their meal, they quickly fled Shovelhead. Deciding the best course of action now was to investigate the town of Geyser itself, off they headed, down the trail.

Greg's Monday group of hearty adventurers has finally arrived in the mining town of Geyser. They are there to investigate reports of monster attacks in the area. As they look out upon the town from a nearby bluff, they decide to hold off on entering Geyser. Instead, they decide to scout from a distance and make sure the area is safe. While they camp out one night, waiting for their scout to return, a bear starts sniffing around their tent. Due to some unfortunate mishaps (and some of those in the tent thinking it's an attacker), they instigate the bear in to a fight and one of them is horribly injured. Will he survive the night?

Tuesdays
After School At Dr Comics
We have space for enrollment of up to 2 more students.

Greg Dachner
Ancient Feeshan ruins are the backdrop for Greg's Tuesday group. The party of explorers, having found the remains of this archaic civilization, begin to investigate. With the help of an archeologist, Dr. Hubert, they find all sorts of strange markings on the pyramids. But strange things still lurk in the shadows of the jungles that surround the ancient city. Os'Feesha, it seems, left some things to protect and guard the area. Before they know it, they have been separated from Dr. Hubert, and his team has been captured! Will they all make it out alive?

Dr. Hubert and his team of archeologists have been kidnapped! Following the trail deep in to some ancient Feeshan ruins, they find what appears to be a long forgotten Feeshan city. The residents here barely speak the same language, and seem ignorant of the outside world. But most importantly, they are weary and suspicious of all outsiders. Are these the people who kidnapped Dr. Hubert, and what do they intend to do with him and his team?

Dominic DiGiovanni & Steve Kani
After Dominic's adventurers made it to the mysteriously unheard of trade city, they decided to do some looking around, upon which they discovered that everyone was marked, and everyone was acting a bit... strange. The merchant Joe suggested that they investigate the situation since there could be something seriously fishy going on. The party began to ask questions and explore the city, narrowly avoiding serious trouble multiple times. Perhaps next month we'll get to the bottom of this mixed-up metropolis mystery...

After some investigation, our intrepid party runs into a man claiming to be a Ta'as who's name is Rol. He schedules to meet them outside of the walled safety of his building, and talks to them about the fishy and oppressive nature of society in this strange new world. They realize that as much as the worlds are much the same, there are huge differences as well. Rol, suggests the party free the inhabitants of this new world, but before they can put their plan into action, some Plajet guards arrive. They look like they came from the world that the adventurers remember! They follow these guards to a hidden part of the Plajet temple, where they're promised a free ride home, after a few questions. But a few questions turn into a few more, and eventually their hosts say that their memories will have to be altered... forcefully! After negotiations fail, the party subdues the guards and hop ship, metaphorically speaking, out of the temple and back into the real world, with refugee Rol in tow. Whew! Its been a rough first half of the year, but there's more to come.

Piedmont Middle School Special Education Class
Becky
Once again, Becky is running sessions for groups of special needs students at Piedmont Middle School.

Our group is on a quest to locate the father of one of the Characters, Pepino. Pepino’s dad, a rogue Wa’la, has journeyed to the Marked Land of Wa’la, looking for his Marked relatives. Upon arriving in Desolation, the Rogue trade town on the continent of Wa’la, Pepino and his friends journeyed the the Marked Wa’la encampment outside of town. There, they learned that Pepino’s dad had journeyed into the desert to the ‘Tower of Hardship’. The Marked Wa’la assigned a young priesten, Dung Beetle, to escort the party to the Tower. Unfortunately, the Marked Wa’la took exception to one of the people in Pepino’s party, a rogue Plajet by the name of Ileana Popescu. Ileana has the unfortunate ability to read people’s thoughts... all the time. The Marked Wa’la are offended by this invasion of their privacy and insist that Ileana be taken to the tower for ‘judgment’. Ileana doesn’t want to go!

So, Pepino and his companions Stein and Jembit (a rogue Feeshan wilderness scout), must journey across the desert with their guide Dung Beetle while keeping a stern eye on Ileana! Along the way, they encountered enormous trapdoor spiders and a pack of lions. Ileana attempted to escape twice. The first time she was recaptured by the party, but the second time she was recaptured by a group of Marked Wa’la. Who meet the party at the base of the Tower of Hardship. Ileana is in bad shape, She has no control over her ability to read people’s mind and fears that the Marked Wa’la are just taking her to the Tower to be killed. How will our group of players handle this dual problem: the trials of the Tower of Hardship and the fears of their friend Ileana?

Archway Group
Becky
Our Archway school group was investigating some mysterious disappearances around the town of Kiki. At first they could find no similarities between the missing, other than that they disappeared while they were alone in or near the jungle. Then they discovered that traces of one of the missing had pointed toward an area in the jungle. Having no other clues, the party prepared to journey into the jungle to look for more information - not an easy task as all of them were trained for city work! After many trials and errors traveling through the jungle, the party stumbled upon an enormous cave system at the bottom of a pit. They spotted some encampments at the bottom, and after some inquires back in town, discovered that the location was frequently used as a campsite for groups of adventurers.

They traveled back to the pit and cave system to investigate. When they finally reached the bottom (200 feet below the surface!), they discovered that the campsites were abandoned and found evidence of foul play! The evidence lead into the cave systems, and as the sun began to set, the party bravely ventured into the dark depths... it wasn’t long before they discovered the bodies of the missing hanging from the walls! Gross! They also found indications that someone was camping down there! Before they could investigate further, two of their party members were ambushed by a crazy looking Sakeet! The party quickly subdued the Sakeet using arrows tipped with a substance which put the Sakeet into a deep sleep; but not before the Sakeet had horribly wounded one of their party. They discovered that the weapon the Sakeet was wielding was made of a strange material, and if they touched the blade, they were overcome with the desire to capture and kill people! The party handled the sword with care and got their comrade and the Sakeet back to town quickly. Although they were unable to save the rest of the missing, they were well rewarded for bringing and end to the attacks.
We begin a new group of students in February!

Thursdays
After School At Dr Comics
Enrollment for Thursday is now full!

Greg Dachner
The Thursday group needs to find the evil mage Ludvig, and fast! Ludvig has been using mind-control magic to turn the local animals into man-eating beasts! Nothing is safe, it seems. They tracked him to another nearby village, where they were promptly arrested, on suspicion of being the cause of all the recent animal attacks. After managing to convince their captures they were innocent, the party agreed to help the town find the source of these nefarious deeds, Ludvig himself. Rumors state he was last seen in a nearby mining town. Can the adventurers make it before he destroys another village?

Hot on the trail of evil magic mastermind Ludvig, the adventurers have found themselves in a small abandoned village. Snow is on the ground, night is falling, and they need shelter fast! They manage to find a way into the abandoned inn, and decided to spend the night there. Soon though, they discover that perhaps the village isn't abandoned, the residents are only in hiding. After befriending the villagers (hiding from the vile animal controlling powers of Ludvig, no less!), they find that not far from the village is an old mysterious tower. Perhaps Ludvig has taken up residence there for his own malevolent deeds.

We began our mission in December. The group was hired by an extremely rich woman to find her husband and bring him back by a specific date. It seemed like a pretty straight forward mission - they know what he looks like, where he works and that he’s in the town of Kiki. Unfortunately, when they arrive in Kiki, they discover the town is filled to the bursting with refugees from Tabur. When they ask about him (Luc Bouchard) at his place of work - the Pasha Jurat - they are told that he is ‘unavailable’ and that no one can disclose his whereabouts! As a further complication, it appears as if he is not registered at any of the inns in town. As a last resort, the party begins questioning the street urchins - groups of young kids who keep an eye on things on the streets and make a living by selling information to the Librarian’s Guild. In all the sections of the town, but one, the street urchins have no information about Luc Bouchard. In one section of town, the street urchins refuse to give any information about Luc Bouchard - even for huge sums of money!

Obviously, this must be where he’s hanging out, although it’s beginning to look like he may be in hiding... Ominously, the party also finds out that a tall, black robed figure, dubbed ‘Mr. Black’ by the street urchins, has also been asking about Luc Bouchard. While the party is perusing the streets of that section of town, one of the characters, Will, stumbles upon a startling scene! A tall, black robed figure is aggressively questioning a small Plajet boy! Quickly, the party communicates with Emerald magic (mind to mind communication) and rushes to protect the young boy. However, one by one, as they rush to the boy’s defense, they lose consciousness and fall into darkness... What will happen next!

Friday

Sneaking through the quarantine zone around Tabur is turning out to be tougher than our party thought it would be! In making their plans, they neglected to take into account that there is currently a hurricane hovering over Tabur! While the winds and weather at the refugee towns is not too bad (40 mph and a light rain), as they journey further toward Tabur, the winds and rain are increasing. By the time they are 1/3 of the way there (having managed to evade the guards), the winds have increased to 60 mph, and it is raining constantly.

To make matters worse, they begin to hear horrific sounds through the rage of the storm, shrieking, howling and roaring... While they are taking a much needed rest in the shelter of some fallen trees, their companion, Gulo, warns them of approaching ‘monsters’ and rushes toward a rock outcropping. The party quickly went into defensive mode, only to be faced with four horribly mutated elephant sized things, all of them attacking Gulo. In the ensuing chaotic battle, one of the party, Lames, was blinded by a stray arrow and Gulo was horribly gored by the monsters.

After the party treated the injuries and stabilized Gulo for transport, they struggled on, only to be attacked again within a couple of hours! This time a huge 6 winged monster swooped down through the storm to attack the Sakeet carrying Gulo’s unconscious body. The party could not coordinate their defensive efforts enough to stop the attack, and the flying monster carried Gulo off into the storm. They were able to determine the direction that it took Gulo using some of her gear as a tracking device for magic. Since it was in roughly the same direction as their goal, the research building of some rogue magic users just outside of Tabur, the party continued slogging through the storm. After what seemed like days, and was only a few hours, the party finally spotted their goal... surrounded by some sort of magical shield and a bevy of horrific monsters... what will they do next?

Greg Dachner
Greg's Friday group is trying to help a man named Vicente reach safety in the town of Kiki. He is gravely injured, and is in desperate need of their help. They manage to get in contact with one of Vicente's friends, Alexie, who agrees to meet them at a nearby warehouse. But, as soon as they get back to their hotel, to get Vicente, they discover he's missing! Was he kidnapped by enemies, or somehow wandered off himself? Hopefully they can find him before tonight's meeting with Alexie!
Tracking with magic they discover he is inside a walled estate in the wealthy section of the city of Kiki. Strangely enough, the house seems to be owned by a Feeshan man named Fisran, who is an associate of Alexie’s. Coincidence? It is awfully suspicious…

Rayna Levine and Scott Lambert
After heading out of the city and dealing with some rather hungry animals, the party believes they are hot on the trail of the abducted Plajet. However the empty clearing and strange rock they find only leads them to a stranger batch of clues... several sets of travel gear buried under the rock. Now the question is, who's stuff is this, and how did it get out here?
In January, the party made an excursion out of town, and luckily got most of the information they needed. Reporting back to their employer, they also discovered a ransom note. They decided to pretend to play along with the ransom, but capture the kidnappers, which worked- to a point. Unfortunately, the kidnappers were very good fighters, and so the party was only able to capture one of the three. From that one, however, the party learned the location of the group's hideout, and was able to exchange hostages. Having succeeded in their mission, the the group has an opportunity to change characters as we begin a new mission in February.

After a few days of searching Far Town for information about Nema’s (their employer’s) brother, the party had found out only a few things. First, and most foreboding, Nema’s brother hired a pirate ship! Second, they were headed toward the northern New Found Lands - still a trip of several weeks! So, they set sail. Once they reached the New Found Lands, the party made a search plan which involved sailing just off the coast while casting Emerald Magic (mind to mind magic) to search for people. After several days, they found signs of a small village on the shore. When they approached, the villagers fled in fear into the jungle. The party rowed to shore to see if they could gather any information. While some of them tried to reassure the few villagers who remained close to shore, hiding in the jungle, the others went down the shore to investigate what appeared to be some ruins. To make a long story and a drawn out combat, short - Nema’s brother and the pirates had indeed been here! In fact, they had stolen some things, killed some people and burned down the village! The villages believe that family members are responsible for the actions of the relatives, and hold Nema responsible for her brother’s actions. They put a crystal into her head containing the dying memories of the villagers who killed and tell the party to see the justice is served when they find the pirates.

The party journeyed onward. After several more days of travel, they discover another village at the head of a long bay. This village is even worse than the other one! Villagers are wandering around the village, the shore and the edges of the forest as if they are animals. Several of the less wise or young have starved to death. Others have been killed by wild animals. Worried that this too was due to the actions of the pirates, the party grimly begins helping the starving children and investigating to see what happened. They discover not only that the pirates have been here and looted the village, but also that one of the mindless people is a member of the pirate crew! Suddenly, one of the party also begins to act mindless... What is going to happen next?

Michael Piper and Steve Kani
The party was captured while breaking into the house of Melphis: an old Plajet/Wa’la mage suspected of kidnapping refugees. Melphis explained that the individuals in question were willing participants in his experiment and offered to drop all charges of breaking and entering if the party was willing to run a couple errands for him. He would even pay them for their time and extended the possibility of longer term employment. The adventurers agreed. Melphis told them that their first errand was quite simple: bring back to the house a herd of goats. This was a strange request, but the characters set out north to find some goats accompanied by two of Melphis’ henchmen: Nera, the younger brother of Melphis, and Timira - a laconic Baluud mage. After passing through a few inn towns they happened upon the marked Plajet town of Rancho. Rancho was a town in turmoil. Divided between cattle ranchers and goat herders, the conflict over who should run Rancho had come to a boiling point. It was decided that a contest would be held in order to see who would run the town. Sadly, the goat herders were lacking in numbers and the adventurers were quickly enlisted with the promise of a herd of goats if they should win. The contest, known only as: The Contest, consisted of five strange events: The Relay, The Joust, The Lead-the-Animal-to-Water, Closed Track Sledding and The Table Tennis Tournament. The events provided many thrills for participants and spectators alike. The Joust was particularly intense. as combatants, dressed in bulky armor and astride a goat or cow, clashed in slow motion. Closed Track Sledding was equally thrilling as competitors crashed around the figure eight track with sleds pulled by either goats or cows. The final event: a tournament of table tennis surrounded by meandering goats and cattle proved to be the most challenging. Imagine playing a fast match of table tennis while navigating a herd of cows and goats! In the end, the goat herders were victorious and the adventurers left town with a herd of thirty goats, a goat herder and the the thanks of the town of Rancho.

The party of adventurers then headed back to Melphis’ compound fresh from their victory at Rancho, leading a herd of goats. Along the way, they were approached by a mysterious stranger - a Feeshan/Plajet named Kells. She asked if she could accompany them for a little while. It is safer to travel in numbers after all. She traveled with them to the next inn town and then the next day, vanished. Upon their arrival at the estate, Melphis was clearly pleased. he paid the party and offered the job of tending the goats to the goat herder. Melphis then set about outlining their next task. The adventurers were to go to the town of Kellmore and find a Plajet Priesten by the name of Timothy (some call him Tim). Then they were to convince him to accompany them back to the estate. How they got the Priesten to accompany them was left up to them. Once again, the party of adventurers set out accompanied by Nera and Timira, What adventures await them this time?

Saturday (2nd & 4th)
Saturdays At Dr Comics

Assistant Tables
We have 1 to 2 tables of training for our assistant program on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays. Assistants (ages 13 and up) play in advanced games that stress the more difficult aspects of the Abantey game. They are polishing their skills in preparation for assisting with the summer program. The assistant games are ‘top secret’, and as this newsletter may ‘fall into the hands’ of regular players, the summaries for the assistant games are not included here.

Scott Seyfarth and Eliot Peper
This month our brave party of adventurers managed to resolve the problems they had been having with their employer and continued with their mission. They were asked to act as security at an extravagant banquet at the resort hotel they are working at. During the dinner a group of disguised foes ambushed the guests and managed to kidnap one despite the party's valiant attempts to repel them. What will happen next? Only time will tell.

Through a diverse variety of ingenious detecting techniques they managed to track the infamous kidnappers who had seized the guest from the hotel. The trail led them to a deserted part of the warehouse district of the city of Sumilon. They surprised and managed to subdue the hooligans, thereby rescuing the hostage. The warehouse was filled with the towels and soap of a different, and very powerful, hotel chain in Sumilon named the Corinthian, could this be a clue? The party delivered the captured thugs to the Guards Guild where they were interrogated. After much hard work the party managed to work out a witness protection plan for one of the bad guys. In exchange he told them where and when he received his pay and orders: from a secret jungle drop site; and the next drop was tonight!

After comforting and healing the kidnapped guest and sending him on his way the party immediately headed in search of the drop site. It was now 11 pm and the dark path lead them through the dripping rain forest up into the hills. They inadvertently set off a number of traps but eventually found the location: in a clearing in the jungle there lay a pool into which fell a rushing waterfall of a small cliff. Searching around the clearing the party discovered that there was a secret passageway behind the waterfall. They then decided to hide and lie in wait for whoever was delivering the contraband. Soon, three cloaked men stepped out through the waterfall. Who are these sinister chaps? Where does that creepy secret passage lead? To be continued...
