Students Speak Scott Kellert 1.) How did you first hear about the Roleplay Workshop and the Abantey A: I found out about the roleplay workshop by being invited to a birthday party of an attending player. 2. What made you decide to try the Roleplay Workshop? A: see above 3.) What was the best part about playing Abantey? A: The best part about playing Abantey is the opportunity to have responsibilities. As a character in Abantey you get to make decisions that have consequences that you would not normally get to make. You get to have powers you would not normally be able to have. And as a younger child it was very exciting to be given this kind of freedom and responsibility. 4.) Briefly describe your best Roleplay Workshop moment. A: My best moments as a player were times where my character had special capabilities that allowed the group to accomplish a task. For example a character of mine that was an acrobat was the only one able to climb into a building then help others in. 5.) Briefly describe your worst Roleplay Workshop moment. A: The closest thing to a bad moment i have ever had was when I spoke too loudly or did something I wasn't supposed to do and Becky told me not too, but that's just because she can be intimidating at times. Even that wasn't "bad" though. 6.) Why did you decide to become an assistant? A: I wanted to become an assistant because I wanted to eventually be
a GM 7.) The attrition rate for Assistants is quite high. What made you stay on as an Assistant? A: Honestly I have no idea why the people who left, left. As an assistant there are some jobs you have to do that aren't fun but they aren't hard. Overall being an assistant is a lot of fun. Between assistant games, being able to learn how to run games from the best, and just getting to spend more time with the super cool roleplay workshop staff I don't know why anyone leaves. 8.) Why did you decide to become a GMiT A: Well this is why I became an assistant in the first place. I have
always been interested in running games (and getting paid). With all
the TV and movies I watch it is very exciting to be in control of my
own story where you never know what the players are going to choose to
do. Also the staff games, missions in which GMiTs and GMs play high level
characters, are somewhat of a legend in the roleplay workshop and those
are a perk to the 9.) What do you like most about being a GMiT? A: I haven't been a GMiT very long but so far my favorite part has been playing in the staff games which is like being trained to be GM while getting to play in one of the most exciting games that is going on. 10.) What is the hardest thing about being a GMiT? A: The hardest thing is having a constant awareness of everything going on at not only my own table but the entire space. 11.) Describe your best GMiT moment. A: My best moment was giving the kids the task of dodging through a herd of elephants and seeing them work as a team to get each other through it and being excited about the situation at the same time. 12.) Your worst? A: The worst thing is easily the necessity to give the kids commands and punishments for misbehaving because it ruins all the fun that they were having. 13.) How do you describe what you do for the Roleplay Workshop to other people? A: To be honest Roleplaying is not considered socially acceptable at
all. 14.) When you leave the Roleplay Workshop and the Abantey program, A: I have learned a whole world of being responsible, how to interact with younger children, and real job experience. Not to mention the fact that this will look beautiful on my college applications. 15.) Do you see yourself participating in gaming, roleplaying or otherwise, after you have left the Roleplay Workshop? A: No not really. I have tried other systems, and I think what I really like about the roleplay workshop is the people and how the system completely reflects the physical laws of the world. *********** Mondays Tuesdays Becky Thomas The hallway had a couple of doors and in front of the largest, and open pit. They checked the pit and discovered and body of a Wa’la impaled on wicked spikes. This place was looking less and less safe with each passing moment! While they were deciding what to do, they realized that there was a faint light at the end of the hall and they could hear the murmur of voices. They sent their assassin, Phil, to sneak down the hall. He passed more doors, some bricked up windows and an enormous grand stairway leading upwards. As he crept closer to the light, the voices sorted themselves into a man, a woman and some children. In the light, he could make out a kitchen. The people were a Plajet family and a Feeshan woman discussing their food shortage. Phil began to sneak back to the party, only to be stopped by the sound of footsteps coming down the stairs. He hid, and a group of six people passed him and entered the kitchen. Once they were clear, he quickly returned to the party. After several feverish minutes of indecision, the party yelled “Hello?” They were answered and after a few fearful minutes, the party joined the refugees. Four different families, including Totuk’s, had been brought here for ‘safety’. Only to have their valuables stolen and find themselves trapped inside this death trap of a building. As none of them were adventurers, they did not have the skills to get past the traps. Once Totuk was healed, the party and the refugees began to make their way out of the building. Traps were everywhere! Crossbow traps on the doors, slicing blade traps on the stairs, pit traps in the yard and more crossbow traps in front of the door into the stable. The party decided to try to avoid the last by climbing to the top of the battlement, only to find shards of glass lining the edge of the wall. What further fiendish traps will they find while they struggle to free the refugees from this ‘safe haven’? Steve

They decided to head out across the grassy plains. They happened upon a cow being devoured by four velociraptors. Using strange and unfamiliar abilities and powers they were able to defeat the velociraptors. The half eaten cow then began to speak. He told them to follow the bird. At that moment a bird flew out of the mouth of the cow and began to circle the party. The party followed the bird and walked to the edge of a strange wall that appeared to reflect the terrain. As they passed through this barrier, they were surprised to find that they had all changed again. They had swapped bodies. Eventually, they reached a hill with some clay pots half buried in the ground. After fiddling with the pots, the adventurers soon found themselves in a large empty room. A door opened and a young woman approached them. She was the spy. A lot of questions were asked and she answered them. When the players ran out of questions, she warned the adventurers that they were in a dangerous position and that there would come a time when they would have to choose sides. And then she was gone. The adventurers woke up in the Plajet temple. Their faces had been changed and they had once again been given new identities. Wednesdays top Becky Thomas Safe now, they sailed on to the islands south of Tabur. As they began to pass over the first island, they detected a female Sakeet and a male marked Feeshan, both of whom quickly tried to hide. They also saw the wreckage of a ship and the remains of a camp. What will they find now? Thursdays Becky Thomas What followed was neither neat nor clean. In a brutal battle, the Feeshan was splattered on the floor. While up in the loft, their Wa’la companion was barely able to hold her own against a brutal Wa’la-Feeshan mix, although she ultimately was able to defeat him . Luckily the other two Wa’la snipers were completely under the power of the effect and were easily subdued. What will the party do next? Three of them are badly wounded and they have three captives? Friday top Becky Thomas Now, a giant hyena, which stands six feet at the shoulder, is no simple foe! Their jaws can crack the bones of elephant horses, so even the armored limbs of the party would be easy munching! The running party members threw themselves into the wagons for cover. Two of them were successful, the the third ran head long into another person running to cover and was trapped on the ground with a hyena close on her heels! Snap! Snap! Snap! Armored clothing was torn and blood flew! But the claws of a Feeshan are a dangerous weapon, and the blood of the giant hyena flew as well. Other party members loosed crossbow bolts and arrows. The battle was quickly over, although it seemed to last forever to those threatened by the hyenas. The party quickly healed themselves and their horse and got under way again. What will they find ahead at Rock Lake? Steve Kani
The adventurers mounted an expeditious retreat. In the confusion, a Feeshan from the outside snuck in and enlisted the help of one of the adventurers (a marked Wa’la priesten named Cactus, to remove three boxes from the warehouse. With the help of the street urchin gang: The Backstreet Gang, everyone escaped the warehouse and evaded the guards. They managed to find healers to tend to their wounded. In all the confusion, they suddenly realized that they had left Tala behind. They had not been able to recover the box, discouraged they returned to the Black Arrow to face their employer. When they arrived, Tuli explained that they had not failed after all. They were part of a backup plan in the event that the first group had failed to recover the box. The first group had succeeded in retrieving the box from the warehouse but by that time, there was no way to contact them. Tuli paid them and offered them another job. They were informed that her employer’s youngest daughter had been kidnapped. She knew where the girl was being held and she asked the adventurers for their help in getting her back. Power Unfortunately, the man was determined not to tell them the truth, and the only way to force him would have been doing invasive and illegal magic, which the party quite properly elected not to do. The party then picked up Olaf and discovered the joys of baby-sitting for prolonged periods of time. After being stopped and interrogated by a city guard (who wanted to know why a group of adventurers was carrying a kicking, screaming child through the city), the party perfected their child-care techniques, only to have Olaf run off at the next inn town. After a frantic 1.5hr search, Olaf was found, but the idea of keeping him tied at all times to a party member is starting to sound attractive! Saturday
(1st & 3rd) top We have two groups and have space for up to 8 more students. Becky Thomas As the guards raced to the sleeping hut, they realized that two of their attackers from the previous inn town were pulling a struggling Yksi from the hut! The sleeping party members were awaken and a flurry of arrows, crossbow bolts and throwing daggers filled the hut, while Yksi repeatedly shocked her attackers with lightning. Suddenly, the screams of horses filled the clearing! A giant sloth had emerged from the jungle and was eating a horse! Now, this was a very peculiar thing, as giant sloth are herbivores, and the party members quickly realized that the sloth was an amethyst hybrid and was feeding on the horse’s life force. The party managed to neutralize the sloth with special arrows, but they needed Yksi’s special training to subdue and feed the beast. Fortunately, the attackers had been mostly defeated and also realized that Yksi would serve them better living than dead. Their fears of a hybrid zone have been realized. Now, what will they do with a five ton sloth? Steve Kani

Saylor While the Sakeet Guard was trying to organize everything and rouse the sailors to return to the ship to guard it, and the Baluud was guarding the remaining prisoner, the escaped pirate reached his contacts, and arranged for a kidnapping attempt on the Baluud friends that the adventurers were escorting! The Sakeet and Baluud adventurers realized too late what was happening, and raced to the luxurious inn where the Baluuds where staying, to find them under attack by a band of pirates. Several of them had already been tied up and were being carried off, while others were barely managing to fight off the pirates. The Baluud adventurer circled around behind the inn and blocked the back door with a magical Sapphire shield, while the Sakeet charged the pirates upstairs. He bellowed the mightiest of roars! and the pirates ran like the cowards they were, taking with them the innocent victims they had trussed up in a net. But they were stopped short at the back door by the sapphire shield cast by the other adventurer! The Sakeet Guard ran into the room and laid about him, knocking out one pirate after another, while the Baluud lifted up a pirate who had crawled out the window to get to him, and stuffed him headfirst back into the window. Finally, they knocked out or chased off all the pirates, and rescued the Baluuds the pirates had tried to kidnap. Unfortunately, the unwashed plajet pirate escaped again! One of the Baluuds they rescued was the young man who had hired them, and at this time he confessed to them a secret. He took them back upstairs to a secret chamber in his room, opened it up, and revealed a golden chest encrusted with gems that was filled to overflowing with coins and valuables! He told them he had found it by following a treasure map that said on it "Captain Jack's Hoard- do not touch on pain of DEATH!" and begged them to protect him- and the treasure- from the mad pirate. What will the adventurers do?! top
